Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz runs through the middle of the island and serves as the gateway to Aruba’s wild side. This is where the manicured resort world gives way to rugged national park, and it is the natural home base for anyone who wants adventure on their doorstep. Arikok National Park covers nearly a fifth of the island from here, with hiking trails, off-road routes, and horseback rides out to the Natural Pool, known locally as Conchi, and to Fontein Cave with its ancient Arawak petroglyphs.

Beyond the park, Santa Cruz has a strong local character and a few standout stops that reward the drive. The Donkey Sanctuary, home to the island’s rescued donkeys, is a genuine family favorite and free to visit. This is eco-tourism and everyday island life together, less polished than the coast and all the more authentic for it.

Restaurants and local spots worth knowing:

  • The roadside and family-run kitchens along the main road, where Aruban home cooking is at its best.
  • Boca Prins refreshment stops inside the park for a simple bite with a dramatic dune-and-ocean backdrop.

Things to do:

  • Arikok National Park for hiking, off-road tours, and the Natural Pool
  • Fontein Cave for Arawak petroglyphs
  • The Donkey Sanctuary for an easy, free family visit
  • Cunucu trails and horseback riding through the island’s rugged interior

Santa Cruz is for buyers who want land, privacy, and proximity to nature, from cunucu homes on large plots to building lots with open views. If a quieter, adventure-close way of living on Aruba is what you are picturing, I am glad to show you what the area offers.
